The program got off to a late start this year but we have had some fun adventures. We’ve helped with a service project at Whitewater State Park, collecting seeds from the black maple trees and then assisting with the direct seeding of those seeds in a project area across from the visitor center at the park.

Another day we hiked up a bluff at Whitewater State Park and watched for migrating hawks. Park naturalist, Dave Palmquist, helped us with the activity and we spotted 16 birds of prey (eagles, hawks and turkey vultures).

A new Get Outdoors Club has kicked off in St. Charles just south of Whitewater State Park. This club is also working with 4-H but is targeting youth in a trailer park near a city park. With our two Get Outdoors pilot projects in both Plainview and St. Charles, the Project GO Coordinator can now assess two different program models to help determine how this project can be packaged and shared with communities throughout the Minnesota.
